Week 1: A Prepared Heart

Theme: "A Prepared Heart"

Scripture: Ezra 7:10 "For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments."

Reflection: Preparation is the foundation of any significant endeavor. Ezra’s story teaches us the importance of intentionality in our walk with God. Before seeking the Law of the Lord, before doing it, and before teaching it to others, Ezra first prepared his heart. This preparation wasn’t an accident—it was a deliberate act of surrender and focus coupled with discipline.

What does it mean to prepare your heart? It means aligning your desires, intentions, and priorities with God’s will. It’s about creating space in your life for His Word to take root, grow, and bear fruit. Preparing your heart involves prayer, quiet reflection, and an openness to be molded by God.

This week, focus on preparing your heart. Remove distractions, seek God earnestly, and ask Him to show you how to align your life with His plans.

Journaling Prompts:

  1. What steps can you take this week to prepare your heart for God’s work?

  2. What areas of your life need alignment with God’s will?

  3. Reflect on a time when preparation made a difference in your life. How can that experience guide you in preparing your heart for God now?

Daily Reflection Plan:

  • Day 1 (Jan 1): Meditate on Ezra 7:10. Ask God to reveal areas in your life where your heart needs preparation.

  • Day 2 (Jan 2): Identify one distraction in your life that you can remove this week. Write about how letting go of it can help you focus on God.

  • Day 3 (Jan 3): Commit to an intentional act of preparation, such as setting aside quiet time, fasting, or journaling about your spiritual goals.

  • Day 4 (Jan 4): Reflect on how your heart feels after intentionally seeking God this week. Write a prayer of gratitude for His guidance.

Prayer for the Week: Lord, help me prepare my heart to seek You with all my mind and strength. Clear away the distractions and align my desires with Your will. May my life reflect Your purpose as I seek, do, and teach according to Your Word. Amen.
